Tragedy Strikes as Emmitt Smith is Taken Off "NFL Countdown"
From ProFootballTalk: It’s official. Emmitt Smith will not be part of ESPN’s two-hour pregame show, NFL Countdown, in 2008. ESPN is expected to make the formal announcement soon. Emmitt will be replaced by Cris Carter... The Sunday NFL Countdown lineup will consist of Chris Berman, Mike Ditka, Carter, Tom Jackson, Keyshawn Johnson, and Chris Mortensen.
Rumor has it that Emmitt will be kept on in a limited capacity, doing Monday Night Countdown and appearing at the MNF sites with Stuart Scott and Steve Young, but there's no way that will be enough. For people who love the NFL and unintentional humor... or people who simply have a grudge against the English language... two hours of Emmitt on Sundays at midday was appointment television. So this is a tough break. So let's drown our sorrows with a few of Emmitt's best quotes from the last three seasons; the kind of gems the Worldwide Leader just made it tougher to catch:
"They did a good job flying around the football field and carowzing the football carrier."
"Eli Manning has been given the rice of passage."
"Don't worry about the game you just won or the team that we just blew out... uhhh... blown... blown out... Let's think about what we need to do going forward, and they had... blown out."
"He gets the ball over to their third read than most quarterback can."
"The leadership definitely have to come from the leaders."
"Wes Worker is a possession receiver that make things happen."
"You cannot change the stripes of a leopard."
